Rush Creek Golf Club: Banquet Chair Furniture Case Study
How One Banquet Chair Helped Refresh a Minnesota Wedding & Event Destination
At Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, Minnesota, the banquet chair has an unusually important job. This is not a room arranged once and left unchanged. The same event environment can move from a romantic wedding reception to a corporate dinner, awards banquet, golf tournament gathering, memorial service, holiday party, or business meeting.
That makes seating one of the most visible—and most frequently handled—elements in the room. Hundreds of chairs can shape the overall impression of an event long before flowers, menus, speeches, or music enter the picture.
For Rush Creek, the Eliseo Teardrop Back Stackable Aluminum Banquet Chair became that visual foundation. Customized with a Bronze Sparkle aluminum frame and Momentum Caravan Milkweed COM upholstery, the chair introduces a softer, more residential quality to the ballroom while retaining the commercial construction, lightweight handling, and stackability expected from professional banquet seating.
The installed result demonstrates how updating banquet chairs can change much more than the appearance of individual seats. Repeated across tables throughout a ballroom, the chair becomes part of the architecture.
From Golf Course & Farm to Minnesota Destination
Rush Creek's story began in 1996, when founder W. Duncan MacMillan set out to transform an old golf course and farm into a first-class public golf facility with the atmosphere and level of service associated with a private club.
Working with golf-course architects John Fought and Bob Cupp, that vision became Rush Creek Golf Club. Golfers quickly embraced the property, and the original clubhouse soon needed to grow with it.
In 2000, the MacMillan Ballroom and Banquet Center opened, expanding Rush Creek from a golf destination into a broader hospitality venue. Its southwest orientation takes advantage of views across the golf course and surrounding wetlands, creating a backdrop that naturally lends itself to weddings, receptions, dinners, meetings, and celebrations.
That combination remains central to Rush Creek today: championship golf outside, dining and hospitality inside, and event spaces connecting the two.

Where Golf Meets Weddings & Events
Golf gives Rush Creek its setting, but events have become an equally important part of the property. The championship course has hosted major competitions, including three LPGA tournaments and the 2004 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. Corporate and charity groups also use the course for outings and tournaments, with options extending to the Mac Nine par-three course and Golf Academy.
Then there is the other side of Rush Creek: weddings and celebrations. Couples can move from outdoor photographs against fairways and mature trees into a ballroom overlooking the same landscape. Golf-course views remain present through the windows even after the event transitions indoors.
That connection between landscape and ballroom gives Rush Creek a distinct identity. It is neither simply a golf clubhouse nor a conventional banquet hall. Natural scenery, lodge-inspired architecture, dining, fireplaces, golf, and formal event service all meet on the same property.
Inside the MacMillan Ballroom
The MacMillan Ballroom takes many of its strongest design cues from the surrounding Minnesota landscape. Warm wood millwork, exposed architectural beams, soft neutral walls, and substantial stone fireplaces create a lodge-like character, while large windows keep the room connected to the golf course.
Vaulted ceilings give celebrations a sense of scale without making the room feel cold. Circular chandeliers introduce a traditional but restrained metallic detail overhead, and natural stone adds texture that prevents the neutral palette from feeling flat.
Rush Creek's current wedding offering also includes an outdoor terrace and Juliet balcony, allowing events to move between inside and outside rather than remaining contained in a single ballroom.
The recently redesigned ballroom creates an especially effective setting for the Eliseo chair. Instead of fighting the architecture, the chair repeats materials and colors already present in the room: warm bronze relates to wood and brass-toned lighting, while Milkweed upholstery picks up the cream, beige, stone, linen, and natural tones used throughout wedding setups.
The Challenge: A Banquet Chair Had to Do More
Banquet seating has to solve a design problem that permanent restaurant seating rarely faces. The chair must look appropriate during a formal wedding one evening and still make sense at a corporate luncheon, golf-awards dinner, fundraiser, or business event the next.
At Rush Creek, that challenge is amplified by the architecture. The ballroom already contains distinctive woodwork, fireplaces, patterned carpet, large windows, and changing event decor. An overly decorative chair could compete with those features. A chair that was too utilitarian, however, would immediately reduce the sense of occasion.
- Wedding-ready appearance: The chair needed enough refinement to work with florals, linens, candles, formal place settings, and bridal decor.
- Design versatility: It could not depend on one wedding color palette or event theme.
- Frequent room resets: Staff need seating that can be moved and stored as layouts change.
- High guest counts: Repetition makes every frame, back shape, and upholstery choice highly visible.
- Commercial durability: The seating must support repeated use across weddings, meetings, banquets, golf events, and celebrations.
- Connection to the room: The finish and fabric needed to complement stone, wood, warm metals, neutral walls, and changing event decor.
The Eliseo Banquet Chair Transformation
Rush Creek selected the Eliseo Teardrop Back Stackable Aluminum Banquet Chair and customized it rather than relying on a generic stock banquet-chair combination.
The most recognizable feature is the teardrop-shaped upholstered back. In a ballroom filled with round dining tables, that curved profile introduces another soft geometry. Repeated dozens of times throughout the room, the backs create a visual rhythm that feels considerably lighter and more graceful than a grid of square-backed chairs.
The Bronze Sparkle frame is equally important. Black might have created too much contrast against Rush Creek's warm millwork and neutral wedding palette, while a bright metallic finish could have pulled attention away from the room. Bronze sits comfortably between those extremes.
For upholstery, Rush Creek used its own material specification: Momentum Caravan in Milkweed. The woven neutral fabric gives the back and seat subtle texture while remaining flexible enough to accommodate very different event palettes.
Why the Chair Works So Well in the Space
The strongest evidence for the Eliseo specification is visible in the installed ballroom. Banquet chairs are unusual because their design impact grows through repetition. One chair may appear understated on its own; sixty or a hundred chairs arranged around reception tables become one of the room's dominant visual elements.
At Rush Creek, the rounded upholstered backs echo the circular reception tables, floral arrangements, chandeliers, and softer architectural details. The frame is narrow enough to preserve sightlines across the ballroom, while the upholstery introduces texture without creating a heavy fully upholstered silhouette.
The color combination is especially versatile for weddings. Milkweed can sit beside white linens and pale flowers without disappearing entirely. It can also accept stronger event colors—such as navy napkins, greenery, blush florals, or darker seasonal palettes—without forcing planners to design around the chair.
That flexibility matters because Rush Creek does not design one wedding repeatedly. Each couple brings a new floral palette, linens, stationery, centerpieces, and personal styling. The chair needs to look finished when the ballroom is minimally decorated but remain quiet enough when the event design becomes elaborate.
Built for the Reality of Event Service
The elegance visible during a wedding is only half of what a banquet chair needs to accomplish. Before the room looks effortless, a staff has moved, arranged, stored, cleaned, and reset the furniture.
That operational side is where the Eliseo's aluminum construction becomes particularly relevant. The chair weighs approximately 11 pounds, making it considerably easier to handle repeatedly than many heavier event-chair constructions. The fully welded 12-gauge aluminum frame is designed for commercial banquet use, while the chairs can be stacked 10 high when layouts need to change or seating needs to be stored.
- 12-Gauge Aluminum Frame: Fully welded construction provides a commercial foundation without unnecessary chair weight.
- 11 lb Chair Weight: Helps simplify repeated setup, breakdown, and repositioning for changing events.
- Stacks 10 High: Allows event seating to be consolidated when the ballroom needs a different configuration.
- 400 lb Weight Capacity: Provides dependable support across diverse guest populations.
- 2.5" Seat Foam: Upholstered seating supports longer events such as receptions, dinners, presentations, and awards programs.
- Nickel-Plated Swivel Glides: Help chairs adapt to flooring while supporting frequent movement.
- 10-Year Frame Warranty: Provides added confidence for a chair intended for recurring commercial event use.
- COM Capability: Allowed Rush Creek to specify Momentum Caravan Milkweed rather than limiting the redesign to a stock upholstery option.
This balance is what makes banquet furniture different from purely decorative seating. Guests should see a beautiful chair. Event staff need to experience an efficient one.

One Chair, Many Different Events
The Eliseo chairs may look most dramatic when the MacMillan Ballroom is fully dressed for a wedding, but their real value to Rush Creek is that the room does not always look that way.
For a wedding reception, rows of neutral upholstered backs create an elegant foundation for white linens, flowers, greenery, candles, and formal place settings. For a corporate dinner, the same chairs can sit beside branded materials and presentation equipment without feeling overly bridal. During golf tournaments and charity events, they allow the banquet center to transition naturally from the course to awards, dining, fundraising, and conversation.
Rush Creek also hosts meetings in spaces such as the Skye and Stirling conference rooms, parties and banquets, memorial gatherings, and other private events. The broader property includes The Highlander Restaurant & Pub, where guests can dine near the stone fireplace or overlook the championship course, further reinforcing the connection between golf and hospitality.
This is why banquet seating has such an outsized influence on an event venue. Chairs appear in almost every photograph, surround nearly every guest, and must work with every event style the property hosts.
At Rush Creek, the Eliseo does exactly that. Its teardrop profile is distinctive without becoming theme-specific. Bronze Sparkle adds warmth without demanding attention. Milkweed upholstery works with both understated and colorful event palettes. And underneath the design is a lightweight stackable commercial frame built for the constant transitions that happen when one ballroom serves many purposes.
The result is not simply a room with new chairs. It is a more cohesive event environment—one where the seating feels connected to the architecture, flexible enough for the next celebration, and polished enough to remain visible rather than needing to be hidden beneath chair covers.
