MARCUS DC Furniture Case Study: Upholstered Bar Stools & Stackable Dining Chairs in Washington, D.C.
A Design-Forward Washington, D.C. Restaurant With Seating That Works as Hard as It Looks
Located at 222 M St NE, Washington, D.C. 20002, MARCUS DC pairs a modern hospitality aesthetic with the day-to-night energy of the neighborhood. For this project, Hospitality Design selected two Superior Seating staples—an upholstered commercial bar stool with a brass footrest and a stackable upholstered dining chair—to support comfort, flow, and long-term durability.
Venue at a Glance
- Venue: MARCUS DC
- Address: 222 M St NE, Washington, D.C. 20002
- Project Source: Hospitality Design
- Furniture Categories: Commercial bar stools + restaurant dining chairs
- Design Focus: Warm natural wood tones, tactile upholstery, and metallic accents that photograph beautifully
- Operational Needs: Durable finishes, cleanable upholstery, and stackable flexibility
The furniture program was built around a simple goal: create seating that supports guest comfort and visual impact, while meeting the realities of hospitality traffic—frequent seating, quick resets, and consistent daily use.

The Challenge: Warm Design, Commercial Durability
MARCUS DC needed seating that could carry a design-forward look—natural wood, refined patterns, and warm color—without sacrificing commercial performance. The furniture had to stay comfortable through long sits, clean easily, and maintain its finish through daily service.
- Bar seating comfort: Supportive upholstered seats with a stable stance and a footrest that holds up to constant use.
- Visual cohesion: Natural wood tones and premium upholstery that complement the restaurant’s material palette and lighting.
- Operational flexibility: Stackable dining chairs that simplify resets and support events or layout changes.
The Solution: Natural Wood, Brass Accents & Upholstered Comfort
Hospitality Design selected a coordinated seating mix from Superior Seating: Madison commercial bar stools in a zebra-style pattern with Canyon Pumpkin upholstery and a brass footrest, paired with stackable antique walnut elm dining chairs upholstered in Natural Linen Moss. Together, the pieces deliver a warm, tactile look that performs reliably in a working restaurant environment.

Customer Experience
“The new must try restaurant in DC! I’ve been to Marcus twice since opening, and I’m wowed each time. The design of the restaurant is lively and transforms you from the hustle and bustle of DC, to paradise. The food is to die for! The cornbread is unlike any other I’ve had. I had the scallops as my starter, and I’m still in heaven. The chefs are culinary genius to pair scallops with a seafood chili and plantain mole. Both the carrots and crispy sweet potatoes were delicious, and even though they’re portioned for two, they were so good that I finished them myself. My favorite, is the dessert. The flourless chocolate cake with plantain ice cream and fresh mango are the perfect ending to a meal. Marcus is a new treasure in DC. If you haven’t made your reservation yet, don’t wait!”
