The Empire Restaurant Group concept combines prime steaks, in-house dry-aged beef, heritage cuts, fresh seafood, classic cocktails, and an extensive wine program with an atmosphere built around timeless elegance and warm hospitality.
The dining room carries the confidence of a traditional steakhouse without relying on a predictable furniture package. Crystal chandeliers, dark ceilings, brick walls, burgundy leather booths, wood paneling, patterned upholstery, framed artwork, and intimate table lamps create a layered setting. The project required furniture that could hold its own within a visually rich interior. Each piece needed enough character to complement the brick, leather, crystal lighting, dark millwork, and vintage-inspired details, but not so much ornament that it competed with the room. Comfort was equally important. The Belmont is designed for multi-course dinners, wine, cocktails, celebrations, and long conversations, so the seating needed to encourage guests to remain comfortable throughout an extended evening.
The Challenge: Classic Steakhouse Character Without Visual Weight
Many steakhouse interiors use dark wood, leather, heavy seating, and substantial tables to create a sense of permanence. At The Belmont, those elements were already present in the architecture and booth program. Adding bulky freestanding chairs or overly formal tables could have made the dining room feel crowded and visually dense.
The furniture therefore had to balance strength with visual lightness. Armchairs needed to feel generous and supportive without blocking sightlines. The table program needed to handle everything from intimate two-person arrangements to long communal or group tables. Round bar-height tops also had to integrate with the cocktail area while preserving the same reclaimed walnut finish used throughout the standard-height dining room.
Another challenge was coordinating a broad size mix. The restaurant selected round, square, and rectangular table tops ranging from compact 24-inch formats to an 84-inch communal top. Each surface required the correct commercial base configuration and height. The finished program needed to look custom-designed rather than assembled from unrelated components.

The Whitman armchair became the central freestanding seating element. The aluminum wood-grain frame delivers the warmth of walnut with a lighter commercial construction that can be repositioned efficiently during daily resets.
The custom upholstery pairing was selected to work closely with the interior. Traveler Chestnut on the seat introduces a warm brown tone that connects to the reclaimed wood, leather booths, and dark flooring. Charlotte Sandstone F200-117 on the back creates a tailored pattern and lighter neutral contrast. Together, the two materials give the chair dimension while remaining restrained enough for an upscale steakhouse.
Reclaimed ash table tops in walnut bring texture and authenticity to the dining room. Their hand-distressed surfaces and natural grain support The Belmont’s emphasis on real ingredients, in-house craft, and classic hospitality. The tops were specified in multiple shapes and sizes so the dining room could accommodate different party counts without changing its overall appearance.
Black cast-iron pedestal bases complete the table program. Their traditional profile suits the steakhouse aesthetic, while the dark finish allows them to recede beneath the tables. Standard and bar-height options support both main dining and elevated cocktail seating.
