Thai Season Restaurant: Mid-Century Style & Modern Comfort with Superior Seating Furniture
Authentic Thai Dining Enhanced with Commercial Furniture & Thoughtful Interior Design
Situated in Carmel, Indiana—just minutes from the Arts & Design District—Thai Season now greets guests with a refined, mid-century ambience that feels both cosmopolitan and unmistakably Thai.
Sleek walnut table tops stretch across the dining room, their dark grain echoing the retro charm of nearby antique stores on Rangeline Road. Anchoring each table is a matte-black metal base whose crisp lines ground the space while quietly matching the restaurant’s window mullions and bar shelving.
Seating is a study in warm sophistication: plush, chestnut-hued six-channel booths run the perimeter, their vertical stitching adding texture and a subtle nod to teak-paneled lounges of the 1960s.
In the center, stackable elm chairs and bar stools in Antique Walnut carry the palette forward with gently curved backs that invite lingering over bowls of fragrant Pad Thai or spicy Green Curry. Overhead, soft golden globe pendants cast an inviting glow that bounces off round mirrors and the vinyl’s satin sheen, creating a dining atmosphere that marries durability, comfort, and Thai hospitality—all made possible by Superior Seating’s commercial-grade craftsmanship.
The Challenge: Blending Mid-Century Warmth with Thai Hospitality
When Thai Season’s owners secured their Carmel location—an open, rectangular shell with twelve-foot ceilings—they knew the right furniture would make or break the concept. The brief demanded pieces that felt at home in a mid-century palette yet respected the brand’s Thai roots and the everyday realities of a bustling suburban dining room.
More specifically, the design team faced three intertwined opportunities:
- Echo mid-century aesthetics without feeling retro or dated. Walnut tones, channel stitching, and rounded silhouettes had to look intentional—not like a movie set—while allowing vibrant Thai dishware to remain the visual hero.
- Maximize seating capacity in one contiguous space while preserving traffic flow. Carmel’s lunch crowd includes office workers on tight schedules, so furniture needed slim footprints, stackability, and booth runs that could seat families or be sectioned for twos and fours.
- Stand up to intense lunch-and-dinner turnover. Friday and Saturday often see double turns; vinyl and wood finishes had to shrug off curry spills, chili-oil splatters, and constant sanitizing without losing their warm sheen.
Layered on top of these functional mandates was an emotional one: guests should feel as if they’ve stepped into a stylish Bangkok café circa 1965—comfortable, worldly, and ready to linger—yet with the efficiency diners expect from Carmel’s fast-growing restaurant scene.
The Solution: Cohesive, Customizable Seating
Working with the owner’s mood board, Superior Seating recommended:
- Six-channel booths in Esprit Chestnut vinyl—luxurious feel, easy wipe-downs.
- Stackable antique-walnut chairs & bar stools for flexible event layouts.
- South-American walnut tops on black metal bases for strength and consistency.
